Million Years comprises photographs taken on a single airplane ride from San Francisco to Newark airport. While the images travel through space and time from the West Coast to the East Coast, the text contemplates the history and formation of the Earth. A desire to document the landscape with time travel in mind inspired the conception of Million Years, but much more work was done since the initial shooting; reading geology books and learning about the history of the earth inspired my poems and the appendix in the back.
The photographs are a mixture of altered and unaltered digital images, reflecting about nature and the effects of human inhabitance on the Earth. The book starts with pristine landscape images and progresses into landscapes altered by excavations and drillings for natural resources and then into populated residential enclaves. The progression of pages also reflects time changes, from lightness into darkness.
